Visit of Indian Minister for Commerce & Industry Kamal Nath
Indian Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath will be visiting Singapore from 31 March to 1 April 2006.Minister Nath will be meeting with Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang on 31 March to discuss the progress of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA).During his visit, Minister Nath will also be meeting Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and top business leaders.
Minister Nath’s visit takes place
amidst flourishing economic ties between the two
countries. Bilateral trade has doubled in the last two years to
reach S$16.6 billion in 2005. Indian statistics show that
Singapore was the third largest source of FDI inflow
into India for the year 2005 – Foreign Direct Investment
(FDI) inflow into India from Singapore
over the
period January – December 2005 reached US$321.4 million. This is a
sharp increase over the US$62.1 million invested in 2004 and
accounts for a third of Singapore’s cumulative FDI
inflow into India of US$962.4 million from August
1991 to December 2005.
