APPOINTMENT OF NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR AT AGENCY FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH (A*STAR)

Ms Yena Lim Hua Yen, an Administrative Service officer, will be appointed as Managing Director, A*STAR with effect from 4 January 2007. She will succeed Mr Boon Swan Foo, who will focus on his appointment as Executive Chairman of Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd (ETPL) to strengthen the technology transfer framework of A*STAR to better commercialize research results to benefit companies in Singapore.

Ms Lim is currently the Deputy Managing Director in A*STAR, responsible for policy and human resource. Before joining A*STAR in June 2006, she was Director of the Resource Division in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, which oversees economic policies related to competitiveness and capability development for the economy.

Ms Lim has extensive experience in public sector administration and had worked in the Ministry of Transport, the Public Service Division (Prime Minister’s Office), the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance. She currently serves on the Nanyang Polytechnic Board of Governors.

Ms Lim was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2006.
