MINISTER OF STATE LEE YI SHYAN LEADS BUSINESS DELEGATION TO EXPLORE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES IN KAZAKHSTAN
3 TO 8 DECEMBER 2006

Minister of State for Trade and Industry Mr Lee Yi Shyan will lead a business delegation to the Republic of Kazakhstan from 3 to 8 December to explore business opportunities.

Kazakhstan is the fastest-developing economy in Central Asia. Largely driven by its rapidly expanding oil and gas industry, it has seen a high GDP growth of 10% per year since 1999. MOS Lee’s visit seeks to increase bilateral economic cooperation and explore opportunities of mutual benefits. Oil and gas, telecommunications and real estate sectors are some of the possible sectors.

During the trip, MOS Lee will call on DPM Karim Massimov, as well as other ministers and business leaders.

Singapore’s bilateral trade with Kazakhstan has risen steadily since 2003. In 2005, bilateral trade stood at S$30.5 million, making Kazakhstan our 130th largest trading partner in terms of total trade.

MOS Lee will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and International Enterprise Singapore, as well as representatives from Singapore companies in the oil and gas, telecommunications and real estate sectors.
