Minister of State S Iswaran Visits chennai, puducherry and mumbai in India, 24-27 September 2007 

Minister of State for Trade and Industry Mr S Iswaran will be visiting Chennai, Puducherry and Mumbai India, from 24 to 27 September 2007.

Mr Iswaran is leading an infrastructure mission to India to attend the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Real Estate Summit at Mumbai on 27 Sep where he will be delivering the keynote address.FICCI is a national organisation in India comprising 1500 corporate members and 500 chambers of commerce and business associations.

During this trip, Mr Iswaran will be supporting the launch of several commercial joint ventures between Singapore and Indian companies in fields ranging from biotechnology to real estate.He will witness the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Singapore’s Bio-Scaffold International and SaveethaUniversity in Chennai for joint biomedical research on bone regeneration and dental implantology in Chennai.He will also officiate the opening of CyberVale, Ascenda’s second IT park in the State of Tamil Nadu.In Mumbai, Mr Iswaran will grace the inauguration ceremony for the Pacific Cosmetic Medical and Dental Centre, a one-stop medical-aesthetic centre spearheaded by Singapore’s Pacific Healthcare Holdings Limited.

Singapore’s trade relations with India have flourished in recent years.The signing of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) with India in Aug 2005 marked a new era in the trade relations of the two countries.Total trade with India reached a record S$19.9 billion in 2006, an increase of about 20% from S$16.6 billion in 2005.

Mr Iswaran will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and International Enterprise Singapore as well as representatives from Singapore companies in the infrastructure and construction sectors.
