MINISTER LIM HNG KIANG TO ATTEND THE AEM MEETING IN KUALA LUMPUR
Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade and Industry, will attend the 38th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 21 to 25 August 2006.
The AEMs are expected to deliberate on economic integration efforts in ASEAN, including the priority sectors initiative, and to review on-going negotiations on ASEAN's Free Trade Agreements with its dialogue partners. The Ministers are scheduled to meet with the Eminent Persons Group on ASEAN Charter.
The Ministers will also hold consultations with their counterparts from Australia, PRC, ROK, Japan, India, New Zealand and the United States. They will also be meeting private sector representatives from the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) and ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASEAN CCI), the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and the East Asia Business Council (EABC).
Minister Lim will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attorney General’s Chambers and Economic Development Board.
