Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong: To ask the Minister for Trade and Industry (a) whether the Government is exploring plans to sign an agreement with India to buy renewable energy; and (b) if so, what percentage of Singapore’s 2030 projected electricity demand target can be met from this agreement.

1. Singapore and India enjoy a strong bilateral relationship. The energy transition is an emerging and potentially important area of collaboration. Both countries can study ways to support our respective net-zero goals, while ensuring energy security and resilience.

2. Under the Energy Market Authority’s Request for Proposal to import up to 4 Gigawatts (GW) of low-carbon electricity by 2035, we have received proposals for import from several countries in the region, including India. EMA has awarded Conditional Approvals (CAs) to import 3 GW of low-carbon electricity thus far. We continue to evaluate the proposals and will award CAs to those that meet our requirements.
