1. A very good morning to everyone. Today, we celebrate not just the opening of Rainforest Wild Asia, but a bold and inspiring future of wildlife conservation and immersive nature experiences. My heartfelt congratulations to the Mandai Wildlife Group for turning this dream into a reality. It is an honour to stand here today as we embark on this exciting new chapter in Singapore tourism.
2. For over 50 years, Mandai Wildlife Group has been a beacon of hope and knowledge, connecting people with the wonders of nature. With Rainforest Wild Asia, we are taking that connection to a whole new level. As the first adventure-based zoological park in Asia, this landmark attraction invites visitors of diverse needs, to see, to feel, and to experience the rainforest in ways never before possible. It is a place where curiosity meets wonder, where education meets adventure, and where each of us rekindle our connection with the natural world.
3. This park is not just about experiencing wildlife; it is about protecting it. I am heartened to know that more than 75% of the species here are threatened in the wild, highlighting the critical role Rainforest Wild Asia plays in raising awareness of the challenges these species face and global conservation efforts. Some of these species, such as the François' Langur and the Philippine spotted Deer, are being seen in Singapore for the very first time. And just last month, we welcomed a precious new life – a Philippine Spotted Deer fawn - was born here on 16 February. This is a testament to Mandai Wildlife Group’s dedication to conservation.
4. The successful breeding of one of the world’s rarest deer, found only on the Visayan Islands of the Philippines, is a clear message of hope. It reminds us that with commitment and care, we can reverse the tide of extinction. Every birth here is a celebration of resilience, a symbol of the possibilities in conservation of threatened species that arise when humans and nature work together.
5. Even as we push the boundaries of experience and engagement, we must never lose sight of our responsibility to protect our environment. Rainforest Wild Asia is a shining example of how development and sustainability can go hand in hand. The park has been meticulously designed to work with nature, not against it.
6. From passive cooling strategies that embrace natural shade and wind flow, to integrating elevated walkways with the cluster of over 300 trees that has been preserved, every detail has been considered with sustainability in mind, including the use of innovative technologies. The introduction of flowering plants to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies not only enhances the beauty of the park but also strengthens our delicate ecosystems.
7. This is what a City in Nature is about. Singapore is a city that cherishes and protects its natural heritage. Rainforest Wild Asia exemplifies this spirit, proving that innovation and conservation can thrive side by side.
8. As we walk through this remarkable rainforest park, may we not only marvel at its beauty but also feel inspired to act. A visit to Rainforest Wild Asia is an opportunity to ignite a deeper love for wildlife and a stronger commitment to safeguarding our planet.
9. Let this park be more than a destination. Let it be a movement – one that inspires us to play our part in protecting nature for future generations. Congratulations once again on this milestone and I look forward to witnessing the positive impact this extraordinary space will have on our community, our visitors, and the world we all share.
10. Thank you.
