Introduction

1. The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) invites businesses and members of the public to give feedback on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). The public consultation period will be from 22 September 2022 to 19 October 2022.

Overview of the IPEF

2. The IPEF was launched on 23 May 2022 and currently includes 14 partners – Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the US and Vietnam. It provides a platform for countries in the region to collaborate on advancing resilient, sustainable and inclusive economic growth, and aims to contribute to cooperation, stability, and prosperity in the region.

3. Ministers from all IPEF partners met from 8 to 9 September 2022 in Los Angeles and launched Ministerial Statements on the four IPEF pillars of cooperation, namely: Trade, Supply Chains, Clean Economy and Fair Economy (refer to Annex A for Ministerial Statements). In conjunction with these negotiations, IPEF partners will seek to develop pilots and projects in each of the four IPEF pillars that will provide tangible benefits for our economies.

Invitation to Provide Feedback

4. MTI invites businesses and members of the public to provide feedback on the areas of cooperation, as well as potential pilots and projects, under any or all of the four IPEF pillars by 19 October 2022. Feedback should be submitted via email to MTI_email@mti.gov.sg using the template at Annex C.

5. Please note that all submissions received may be published and attributed to the respective respondents unless they expressly request MTI not to do so. As such, if respondents would like (i) their whole submission or part of it, or (ii) their identity, or both, to be kept confidential, please expressly state so in the submission. In addition, MTI reserves the right not to publish any submission received where MTI considers it not in the public interest to do so, such as where the submission appears to be libellous or offensive.
