U.S.-Singapore Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement Enters into Force

U.S.-Singapore Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement Enters into Force

Yesterday, the United States and Singapore’s Agreement for Cooperation Concerning Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, or “123 Agreement” entered into force. This agreement enables deeper nuclear cooperation, consistent with the highest international standards of safety, security, and nonproliferation.

With its entry into force, the 123 Agreement will establish a new substantive area of cooperation with the United States. This agreement will facilitate Singapore’s capability building journey to understand and evaluate advanced nuclear energy technologies, which can potentially support our clean energy needs.

Through this agreement and other capacity building initiatives, such as the Foundational Infrastructure for the Responsible Use of Small Modular Reactor Technology (FIRST) programme, the United States and Singapore will continue to build on our robust and deep bilateral partnership across the economic, defence, security, and technology domains.

More information can be found in the Joint Statement on the Signing of the United States-Singapore 123 Agreement.
