SMS Lee Yi Shyan to Attend 22nd APEC SME Meeting

Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan will attend the 22nd APEC Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Ministerial Meeting to be held in Iloilo City, Philippines, on 25 September 2015.

The APEC SME Ministerial Meeting is an annual platform that brings together Ministers responsible for SMEs from the 21 APEC economies to discuss issues pertaining to the growth of SMEs in the APEC region.

At the meeting, the Ministers will discuss ways to enable SMEs to participate in the global economy through internationalisation, as well as the Boracay Action Agenda – an initiative which aims to provide wider opportunities for APEC SMEs to participate in regional and global trade. Other areas of discussion under the three sub-themes are (i) promoting inclusive growth through sustainable and resilient SMEs; (ii) advancing modernisation and standards and conformance of SMEs; and (iii) removing barriers and facilitating SMEs’ entry to markets.

During the meeting, Mr Lee will urge APEC economies to continue to support market liberalisation to support SMEs’ export and growth. He will also share Singapore’s experience in advancing our quality and standards infrastructure and how this enables Singapore SMEs to access international markets and attract new business.

Mr Lee will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and SPRING Singapore.
