Minister Lim Hng Kiang to attend 42nd ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting, Danang, Vietnam, 23-27 August 2010

MINISTER LIM HNG KIANG TO ATTEND 42ND ASEAN ECONOMIC MINISTERS’ MEETING, DANANG, VIETNAM, 23-27 AUGUST 2010 

Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang, will be in Danang, Viet Nam to attend the 42nd ASEAN Economic Ministers’ (AEM) Meeting from 23 to 27 August 2010.

At this meeting, the ASEAN Economic Ministers will discuss the progress on regional economic integration initiatives, in particular the work done towards the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015. The Ministers will also hold dialogues with the private sector, including the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the US-ASEAN Business Council on the AEC initiative.

In addition, the Ministers will hold a dialogue with logistics industry representatives, following a Symposium on ASEAN Logistics Integration. Logistics is one of the Priority Integration Sectors for ASEAN. The 12 priority sectors are: agro-based products, air travel, auto motives, e-ASEAN, electronics, fisheries, healthcare, logistics, rubber, textiles, tourism, and wood-based products.

The Ministers will also meet other Economic Ministers from China, India, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and the European Union to discuss issues relating to ASEAN’s progress on FTA negotiations and economic relations with Dialogue Partners. 

While in Viet Nam, Minister Lim will also grace the opening ceremony of the new bottling line of Vietnam Brewery Limited (VBL), Danang, on 27 August 2010. VBL, Danang, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vietnam Breweries Limited, which is in turn 60% owned by Asia Pacific Breweries Limited.

Minister Lim will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
