VISIT TO SINGAPORE BY DR MAHMOUD GEBRIL, DIRECTOR-GENERAL, NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD OF THE GREAT SOCIALIST PEOPLE'S LIBYAN ARAB JAMAHIRIYA (LIBYA) 

Dr Mahmoud Gebril, Director-General of Libya’s National Economic Development Board, will visit Singapore from 25 to 29 August 2008 at the invitation of Mr S Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry.

Dr Gebril’s visit follows on the heels of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong’s trip to Libya in May this year, when a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr Gebril and SMS Iswaran to form a Joint Working Group to facilitate cooperation and investments between Singapore and Libya.

Dr Gebril and SMS Iswaran will co-chair the inaugural Libya-Singapore Joint Working Group (LSJWG) Meeting on 28 August 2008 which aims to raise the awareness of investment and business opportunities in Libya to Singapore investors and companies as well as promote collaborations between both the private and public sectors.

During his visit, Dr Gebril will meet Singapore leaders and attend a business and networking event organizeded by International Enterprise Singapore. Apart from meeting with Singapore companies, Dr Gebril will also meet with the Singapore Civil Defense Force, Singapore Police Force, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS Enterprise and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.

Dr Gebril will be accompanied by officials from several Libyan government agencies. Libya and Singapore officials are also scheduled to meet during the week for negotiations over an ‘Investment Guarantee Agreement’ and an ‘Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement’.
