Singapore to Undergo Fifth Trade Policy Review at the World Trade Organization in Geneva

TO UNDERGO FIFTH TRADE POLICY REVIEW AT THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION IN GENEVA

Singapore’s fifth Trade Policy Review (TPR) will be held at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland from 14 to 16 July, 2008.Mr Ravi Menon, 2nd Permanent Secretary for Trade and Industry, will lead the Singapore delegation to attend the TPR of Singapore.

Under the WTO TPR Mechanism, all WTO Members are subject to periodic reviews, with the primary objective of enhancing transparency of Members' trade and related economic policies. Singapore undergoes this review exercise once every four years. As part of the TPR, the WTO Secretariat has published a report and Singapore has issued a policy statement. The report, policy statement and proceedings of the TPR meetings would be available shortly after the meetings on the website at http://www.wto.org/english/tratop_e/tpr_e/tpr_e.htm.

At the Review, Singapore will respond to questions raised by WTO Members with regard to our trade and economic policies.

Singapore’s delegation for the TPR comprises of officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Manpower, Attorney-General’s Chambers, Monetary Authority of Singapore and Economic Development Board.
