Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan’s trip to Beijing, China, 30-31 October 2007

Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan will lead a delegation to attend the inaugural Asia – Europe (ASEM) Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Ministerial Meeting in Beijing, China, from 30 to 31 October 2007.

The ASEM SME Ministerial Meeting gathers Ministers responsible for SMEs from the 43 ASEM member countries. The Ministers will discuss best policies and practices to create a pro-business environment, enhance SMEs’ competitiveness and innovation capacity, and improve SMEs’ access to markets. The Ministers will also be meeting representatives from the EU Commission and the ASEAN Secretariat.

At the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting, Singapore will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on SME cooperation with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China. This MOU seeks to promote cooperation and exchanges among Chinese and Singapore SMEs through various B2B and G2G collaboration.

Mr Lee will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and SPRING Singapore.
