APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHIEF STATISTICIAN, DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS
Ms Wong Wee Kim will be appointed Chief Statistician, Department of Statistics (DOS) with effect from 1 July 2006.She will succeed Mrs Leow Bee Geok, who is retiring from the civil service.
Ms Wong Wee Kim
Ms Wong, who joined the public service in 1983, is currently the Deputy Chief Statistician of DOS. She holds a 1st Class Honours in Mathematics from Oxford University and a Masters in Accountancy from the Nanyang Technological University. She also attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 2000.
Prior to her appointment in DOS, Ms Wong was the Director of Planning and Enterprise Ecosystem Policy at the Economic Development Board (EDB).During her stint there, she made significant contributions to the formulation of EDB’s economic development strategies. She was awarded a Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2003.
Ms Wong was seconded in Aug 2004 to DOS where she assumed the appointment of Deputy Chief Statistician and concurrent appointment of Director (Business Statistics). She was instrumental in mapping out the strategic direction of DOS.
Mrs Leow Bee Geok
Mrs Leow joined the Statistics Service in 1972 and was appointed Acting Chief Statistician on 1 June 2004.She has served DOS and the Statistics Service well for 34 years. With her wealth of experience and expertise, she will be re-employed as Advisor of DOS with effect from 2 July 2006.
Mrs Leow has made significant contributions to the development and strengthening of the Government Statistical System throughout her service. She was involved in numerous statistical development work and national statistical projects, and played a key role in improving the level of professionalism and standards in Singapore’s statistics.
For her distinguished service, she was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2000.
